VOTED BEST NEW PLAY (AUCKLAND) IN THE NZ LISTENER 2003.
A tale of love and thievery set in an extraordinary, precarious village at the top of the world.
Rena, the butcher's daughter, is seventeen and dreams of travelling. She works for her father, the butcher, releasing the souls of the animals they kill to create divine tasting meat that gives the townsfolk longevity, vitality and an excessive lust for life.
The story of the famous meat spreads, and a gypsy travelling band arrives in town to steal the secret of the magic meat. Desires, grief, passion and love culminate to change the life of the butcher's daughter forever.
Highly physical theatre using ropes, swings, puppetry, storytelling and song.
Premiered at the Herald Theatre in 2003.
