Rena, the butcher's daughter, is seventeen and dreams of travelling. She works for her father, the butcher, releasing the souls of the animals they kill so creating divine tasting meat. This gives the townsfolk longevity, vitality and an excessive lust for life.
The story of the famous meat spreads and a gypsy travelling band arrive in town to steal the secret of the magic meat. They not only steal Rena's heart but also discover an even greater secret that the butcher hides from everyone. When Rena discovers this secret she comes face to face with the truth about her mother and the reason for her own magical ability.
